Drove up the Sonoma County coast to hunt shrooms.  Looked out over a beautiful ocean, zero wind, moderate swell, sunny sunny sunny.  Water was looking pretty good and I was thinking that I should have brought the kayak to go jigging.

... and then reality set in-- lings, cabs and rockfish are CLOSED! unless we dive for them and the water didn't look that good for diving.  But, but, but... it was definitely fishable.

Oh well, at least we scored big time on the chanterelles and hedgehogs...

Mmmmm.... Chantrelles.... used to pick them all the time back home in WI.

Are you finding them in the pine / redwood forests up north right now?  I didn't realize they had them out here... might have to check that out.

Jzumi or bigeyedave are the right direction.  Both of them are fungus hunters.  Antwhere on the coast with the right mix of trees etc.  Its all about the timing.

John,
I'm not trying to hijack your thread but I went out to Lake Sonoma to bowhunt pigs yesterday and we picked about 40 lbs of Golden Chantarelles.  It was crazy.  Derek went up the coast and scored on the black chantarelles and the hedgehogs in Salt point state park.  It is wide open everywhere.

How's the water look at Sonoma Muddy?

Wow... other mushroom hunters/kayakfishermen on the board. Just got back froma 4 day backpacking trip out to Sykes hostprings in Big Sur. Along the way we found Chantrelles, Candycaps, tree oysters, and black truffles... MMMM... Nuthin like pan fried fresh shrooms round a campfire deep in the heart of Big Sur.
Hope everyones doin well!
I'm off to Costa Rica for  a month, leaving the beginning of Feb. I plan on doing ALOT of kayakfishing while I'm down there, and will post a report and pics wehen I get back in town.
