Hey guys,
Bloodbath here! Cruised the coast today and remembered that the whale was still washed up at The Bean.
It smelled bad and it's carcass was overwhelming the beach. Blubber bits everywhere, greasy oily sand, dirty water. I believe that the plan was to let it decompose naturally as opposed to towing it away. Oh well. Enjoy pics!

That is awesome. Was the smell to point of gagging?

I went by on Sunday afternoon at high tide with a good-size swell running, definitely an angry sea you couldn't launch in. Strong wind blowing too, probly 10-15 kt, and when I was downwind it was very unpleasant. I held my breath on the way back past it. Dozens of people gawking at the sight.
Waves were pushing the carcass around several feet... very impressive. I took a bit of video, will try to post it. Overall, a pretty macabre experience. Very sobering.

I wonder if the scent is attracting other predators to the area?

no doubt Frank...I'm thinking a live goat tied on a big rubber tire would catch something of size :smt002

yak...

I think I saw a show about whales can blow up and actually kill people as they decompose. Caused by gas build up.
