I'm wondering if anyone uses a 7 or 5mm "top" of a two piece suit over thier 3mm Farmer John to dive with.  In my head it sounds like it would work.  The only part of your body wearing 3mm would be your legs, everything else would have over 5mm of insulation.  Just wondering.  I tried looking it up in "search" but couldnt find anything.  Thanks fellas

I don't, but I've used a 7mm top with 5mm bottoms, 5mm top with 3mm bottoms, 3mm top with 1mm bottoms.  I've never used two that were that big of a diff. in thickness.  The only problem I foresee with 7mm top and 3mm bottoms is that you could be very top buoyant.  Or if where the 7mm and 3mm meet and there isn't a good seal, you could get a flush of water and that will make you cold fast.

I use a one piece, back zippered, 5,6,7mm Tilos w/titanium. I rarely get cold, am a water-dog and always want to stay in. The gussets of 5mm in the flex areas help, I believe.

Your layered idea/approach sounds like it will work, personally, I like 7mm for the North Coast. . . .

Mixing thickness won't cause a problem but 3mm isn't warm enough for up north.
