Wanting to hit the Trinity River (Douglas City/ Junction City areas) last week or weekend in Oct.

They are starting to show in those areas and I hope they will be there in force by then. :smt002

This will be my first time yak fishing the river, but I have rafted those areas a few times (not to wild, class II at most)

In the interest of safety :smt001 and companionship :smt004
I'm looking for others that are interested in the same. :smt003

Would like to do an over night trip and fish 2 days, :smt003
but would consider a day trip from Redding as well :smt001

Any fishing or kayaking tips welcomed :smt002

Anybody interested?

Later, Tad  :smt006

Here is some river info.

That sounds like a blast, Tad, and I like that river info link.  Keep us posted on your plans - I'd love to jam up there and meet you for a drift.   :smt001

Sounds awesome, would love to do that, I was also thinking of doing the Klamath below Irongate to Klamathon bridge, short float easily done in a day. Never done it in the kayak only in a drift boat. I pretty much only swing flies on the spey rod now for steelies now so I wouldnt actually fish from the kayak just would use it as a taxi.

I'm going up on the 16th for a week so don't know if I could make the Trinity at the end of the month, but who knows. If I can't make it would love to do something in the future. Keep me in mind, I have a cabin about 20 mins from the Klamathon brdige takes about 2.5 hrs to get down to Weaverville. Now to go tie some green butt skunks... :smt003

p.s. heard most of the fish still well below junction city, by the end of the month it may be perfect and I may get a bad cold forcing me to take off work.

I've done a few trips in my 8' pram and really like the sections from Bucktail to DC camping at Steel Bridge or DC.
If you have never done the river before I would camp at DC and do the section above both days. I think you can fish a lot more effectively if you don;t have to worry about what's up ahead. Tips don't use braid, use lures or flies you will cover a lot more water than with bait, don't fish the first mile or so not only will it make you more comfy it will give you more time to fish the lower sections and you will pass other boats on the same drift and fish more undisturbed water. Don't leave your waders outside they are hard to put on when they stand up by themselves. 3 or 4 miles is plenty of water to fish in a day.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

mickfish,

Thanks for the tips :smt002

Eric, Tim and Ted,

Glad you guys are interested :smt004

Last week or weekend in Oct.?
Mid week would see less fishing pressure,
but I know that may be difficult for some of you to take off from work.

Do you guys prefer a day trip or an over night camping trip?

Let me know what would work best for you.

Later,
Tad

Just found your message and this thread Tad, sounds like a great trip.  I'm still looking for my buck this year, if I connect with him this weekend I should be able to make it with you guys.  I've been wanting to float that stretch for a long time, and an overnighter would be a blast.  Let me know if you guys narrow in on a date.

Tad,
An over night trip sounds great.
My schedule is wide open near end of Oct. so far.
With any luck we'll get some rain B4 then to increase the fish counts.
The link you posted is great info.
Camping at D.C. and running 2, 1-day trips sounds cool.

Tim

Sounds like an over night trip is preferred  :smt001

I'm thinking Thurs/Fri, (28/29) Fri./Sat.(29/30) or Sat./Sun(30/31)

Camp at Steel bridge or Douglas City CG and drift the section between them.

fisheducator/Tim is in :smt004 he can go mid week or weekend.

beenfishin/Ben, hope you score your buck so you can join us. :smt002
Which dates work best for you?

Black Ab/Eric , golfish/Ted, Hope you guys can make it.

Spent the weekend doing a water pump on my truck and honey-do's around the house, so no buck for me.  I'll be heading into the alps for an overnighter this weekend which will suck up my WAF points, so count me out for the hookup.  :smt012
