They were even talking about arrests with baseball bats in a car.  If you have gloves and a batting helmet, you are A-OK.  CA laws sure can suck.

Who's they?  LEO's or someone who heard it from their brother's friends ex-girlfriends sister?

That sounds like a stretch.

they = attorneys.   Here are the case examples they gave:

People v. Grubb

THE PEOPLE, v. SEAN KING

THE PEOPLE v. ERNESTO ARNOLDO RUBALCAVA

THE PEOPLE v. JOHNNY RALPH FANNIN,

hmmm....the only case dealing with bats was grubb and the dummy admitted to having the bat for self defense and actually hitting people with it before he got charged.  I think we're all cool....unless you guys start running around bonking people.

although....Berg might be in trouble if he starts grinding any points or sharp edges on them butterknives, at least according to people v ruvalcaba.

The discussion came down to intent,

I've asked several police officers about carrying a big knife in my truck, (would it be considered "concealed" if it's stashed in there?) and they said it all depends on what you are up to.  If they see fishing/hunting stuff, no worries.  Nylon stockings and bandanas?  You might get hassled.

that was the final outcome in the discussion, intent and being able to prove your intent.  If say EWB crams a billy down his pants and goes strolling through a bad part of Richmond, gets caught, then you have intent.
Is that a billy in your pants, or are you just happy to see me.  :smt003
