Taking the family to Drakes Oyster farm in Tomales next Saturday, and was wondering where is the closest crabbing area from there.  Is it Doran Beach?  Or is there somewhere closer?

My son will be on his yak, so I'd prefer mild launching conditions.  Thx in advance for your advice.

john, you can crab inside of tomales bay.  you could launch at lawsons or any of the parks with access along the way. someone else might be able to give you more info on the launch spots.  i dont think they allow you to launch off the oyster farms because they're afraid you'll mess up their gear though.

plenty of crabs within tomales bay, just be careful of the tides. they have some pretty big swings that could drag your buoys underwater so you can't see them.  consult a tide chart to be sure!

this is the biggest factor in tomales, make sure you have extra rope and some weight in the traps, but doran is also a good place, launching from the day use area by the jetty is pretty sheltered, good luck, i will be out there monday, cameron

Ben, thx for the info.  Can you provide more specifics on where to launch out of Tomales?  thx, and I'll definitely check the charts.

John I've only launched out of lawsons. Sonny might know more of the launch spots, you could ask him. Lawsons charges some amount of entry fee.
