After being discouraged by the reports of flood debris moving through San Pablo Bay, a few of us decided to go to the Oakland Airport instead.  InsaneDuane, Eric "eyeatbay", Dave from San Jose, Dave "bigdog", Freddie, SteveS, and I thought we all made a good decision when we saw how clean and calm the water was at Oakland. WRONG!

Right away Freddie caught a bunch of leopards and big batray.  Duane --a big leopard and later a starry flounder.  SteveS --  several sharks and a kingfish.  As for me, I scored an assortment of leopards, kingfish, and just before quitting -- this nice 8lb/26" striper consolation prize.

Sounds like you guys had better fishing numbers wise.

nothing wrong with leopards, even if they are not your target.  If you haven't, try one, they taste great.

I looked for a launch map for oakland airport and failed.

I just basically wussed.  Lame on me.

Chuck, Great, you definitely deserve the nice striper ( you spent time on it  :smt006). Some of us left a little early. Today has a little bit of everything  :smt013-- a mixed weather (sunny, cloudy, raining and foggy). It is easy for weatherman -- he would not says anything incorrect  :smt005. Thank Chuck for showing us around the area.  I had a few bites. None of them were serious. They seem kingfish bites. I guess My sturgeon hooks are too big for them :smt002. Well, the best for me is the workout I need.  :smt004

Chuck,
Although you didn't catch any sturgeon it sounds like you guys had some good action and the striper is nothing to call a consolation prize.  Good job.

I need to learn about the Oakland Airport launch. I am sure San Pablo is closer and easier to get to foe me though.
Jason, I forgot to thank you for loaning me the rod holder. I need to make a list of things so I don't forget next time.

Thanks for sharing.

What I remember about InsaneDuane, is his kayak being fully loaded and green.

curious does any one eat those batrays ( mean normal people)

I didn't see anything in the recipe section for batrays.

ChuckE, I officially respect you as the guy that gets most excellent stripers while trying for sturgeon.
I've never caught a striper, or even seen one caught, I have no clue on those guys. After art
said a 20lb striper blows doors on a 30lb ling, well, I'd like to catch one, and my respect for
you grows at a rate proportional to your failure to catch a sturgeon!  :smt003

eating batrays?

HOLY GOWEN!

well here's what google turned up for me:

http://www.sandiegofishing.com/buddydb/showthread.php?s=458b32ab1b780f29e9ae5aa0b6e4f430&threadid=18845

be very wary of so-cal dudes offering advice... (no need for brains in that weather, they atrophy quickly!)

then being a one-time doberman owner with kids, I ran across this link (note the batray reference)

http://www.ckfbbs.com/wwwboard/messages/1016.html

and that's enough goofing off for now.

very funny John, I love the Doberman fishing.

this could be good practise for the off season, but it sounds like it could led to some bad casting techniques.
