Wow, LM creek is really flowing in those pics...I've heard rumors of steelhead running up that creek to spawn. I'd love to see that, although I don't know how true those stories are...
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

If you look closely you can see Blue Kayak with a salmon on in that one Rockaway photo. Too bad he had to release it.

during the hot salmon bite at LM - 2004, Jdyak / John and I saw a BIG fish inside the creek. I swore it was a salmon (about7- 8 pounds). I thought that maybe it swam close enough to the beach and somehow it got the scent of fresh water and decided to swim up the creek to spawn - but I could be wrong. It could have been a resident steelhead.

The surf up north was a little (ok a lot) bigger than down in Santa Cruz.  I have a few shots taken from West Cliff (but not on this pc) Seal rock was getting washed over, and I saw a few tripple waves? (3 waves real close to each other) heading in.  End of Woodrow, had water comming up onto the street and I almost caught a picture of a car getting swamped.  What stopped me was the sound of that same wave over my head!
Didn't get wet.  It did make me look thought missing the shot. :smt009
When I get the shots transfered over I'll post a few.

Awesome pics Joel.  I love going to the beach just to see how how ugly it can get.  Builds a healthy respect for its power.

On a side note, I've had the mavs cam on all day......its clear enough see people out there surfing.  Tuesday it was a little stormy, view wasn't the best but it looked like there was people towing in.....pretty cool to watch.

well, I'd say the poseurs are the people that didn't paddle out.

as a long time surfer, being a bobber has happened to me a few times over the years,
only get one, and that's to the beach!  :smt011. I think it happens to almost
everybody that surfs eventually, just like skunkage happens to all fishermen.

if it looks big from the beach, you should see how some of them look when you are
out there!  :confused2: :confused3:

A surfboard is a displacement craft until it planes. so longer is faster, it also usually
planes quicker. but longer is usually less fun once you are up. So sometimes you look at it,
think you can paddle into 'em on a 6'6", paddle out there and find out you can't,
they are bigger than you thought and moving faster than you expected. shoulda
taken the 7'6" pin!  :smt013. The maverick's guys will ride 9' and 10' pointy boards.

the quality of those rockaway waves doesn't look too good, but some of them probably
had some fun out there.

Also mooch, I think the vernacular is 'cowabunga' not 'cowabonga', although given
the predisposition of surfers to herbal wave improvement techniques, perhaps your
spelling is better,   :smt005.
