Bought a few pole racks in my time and never found one I was totally happy with.  They are usually designed to hold the rods too close together and are a pain to dislodge a pole stored with the reel on it.  I threw together a pvc rod rack that was spaced so you could remove any given rod and not worry about playing tetris with the others.  Nothing too fancy, just a bunch of crosses and arms with caps on the end.  Secured it to the stud with some 1/2" standoff clamps as it was heavier than expected.  I left the extending portion unglued, as with the top and bottom ends for future expantion.  It was a good rainy day project and it displays your rods nicely if you have the wall space.

That's friggin awesome! That looks cool enough to put in my little living room  :smt007 Who needs framed pics of Ansel Adams when you can display your own weapons of mass destruction for everyone to see (and not touch  :smt018 )

Very nice. The access is much easier than my holders hanging from the rafters.

Nice work!! If I get this townhome I just put a bid on I'll be setting it up just like that!  :smt003
So I guess they just balance on the PVC pegs? There's no straps that hold them on there?

Thanks guys.  Yeah Z, I just set them on the pegs.  The pegs are 2' apart so there is a little room to find the sweet spot.  Having the caps on the ends also gives you a slot to seat them in, just in case you happen to bump into it or something.

NICE RACK!   :smt003

My only concern about storing rods horizontally would be the possibility of causing them to take a permanent bend over time.  If you get them out of the rack enough, probably won't be an issue, but I'd make sure to at least remove any weight or lures before putting them in storage so there is as little force acting on the tip as possible when stored this way.

That's a good point.  I guess a little time spent unrigging before storing will save some rods in the long run. I can see a bend on one of the middle rods in my pic, still with a weight on it.

Either that or you could mahe a third set of pegs to support them about a foot from the tips.

I don't have the wallspace for this approach & am trying to find a good way to store 30+ sticks that vary from 3.5 ft ultralight to 1 piece 9 ft jigsticks.
