Hey guys thinking of getting a new reel
What ive narrowed it down to is either a Calcutta TE or a Luna.
Does any one have anything negative on any of these reels
The Luna is much cheaper in price but i have read many reviews and they seem to always compare the two reels and the Luna seems to match up pretty well.
Here is one of the reviews I read
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwaluna.html

Thanks
Ryan

I own both a Luna 300 and a Calcutta CTE 400 and prefer the Luna.  It has never failed me in 3 years of heavy use.  The Luna is super easy to open and I make it a habit to clean the inside after every trip in the salt.
I upgraded to Carbontext drag washers which made even it smoother.

Caught some big lings on it with no problem pulling them of the bottom.
The Luna gives you More BANG for your buck.

Don't own a Luna but I've owned my Calcutta 401 TE for over 6 years now (and I abused the hell out of it - including dumping it on the surf once). I had  Allan Tani service it twice (and once just recently)....it's still working like a champ. I know jdyak had his calcutta since the 80's and still runs smooth.

Just my 2 cents...

I have owned a daiwa luna, calcutta b and revo toro and for casting and fun to fish with,  I would say the revo is my favorite.

I wasn't going to muddy the waters but since Scott used the "R" word (Revo). I love mine and it may be cheaper. Rhy, I will have it in a few weeks at Cambria if we connect you can take it for a spin...and boy does it spin. That is if you can wait that long :smt001

Round vs round
I like the Luna cost/performance better than the calcutta. You can lift the cast bar with your thumb to stop freespool also.(I upgraded to carbontex drag and torque handle)

Low profile vs low profile
I like the Toro over the Curado 300 feature wise. Stock carbon drag and torque handle, clicker on the Toro .60

They all fish good and are quality pieces.

The Toro on a lightweight trigger stick is money! If you fish jigs and swimbaits all day.

Mark -

I completely agree. I am not a bass angler so the low profile baitcasters didn't appeal to me because of the line capacity and growing up fishing saltwater in SOCAL, round reels ruled. When the Revo first came out I was skeptical but now that I own one, I am ready to sell my Luna. The toro has greater line capacity than than the Luna 300, greater drag capacity, is lighter, and easier to cast so why would I choose the Luna? OK, the Luna is easier to maintain and the drag wheel on the toro is easy to cross thread but those are small issues. The extremely tight tolerances on the toro also decreases the risk of sand infiltration. The centrifugal brakes on the toro are better than the luna IMO.

Yep I couldnt wait. Do u plan on fishing on Sat with us.
Got the new reel today and casted it for a couple hours and loved it. Did notice that even when the drag is backed off all the way it still has some drag left about a 1/2pound my cardiffs have none they our pretty close to free spool when the drag is backed off.

Yeah not sure I could have waited either. Yep that's the plan. I am strongly suggesting that we do the family thing on Friday (less crowds) so I can fish on Sat. I'll keep you and JK in the loop.
