I was just wondering if they feed on squid at night.  If the answer is yes, are there any conditions/dangers that I should be aware of for night fishing for WSB?  Other than being run over by a PB?

Are you a glutton for punishment, a thrill seeker, or is it the only time you can get out?

WSB usually feed right before first light (at least here in socal), but I would imagine it would be possible to catch them at night. They are probably asleep hunkered down somewhere at midnight, I think most fish are not nocturnal except for sharks, rays, etc.

Yes they feed at night when the squid our around. The boats that our out at night get them if they our around. There our multiple documented articles out there of WSB being nocturnal they our one of the exceptions. As our albies, the science shows that albies for the most part sleep during the day and feed at night, obviously they do feed during the day but more so at night, the problem is that the sharks our so active at night.

thx all for your input.  was just thinking out loud.  It's been educational.

Are you a glutton for punishment, a thrill seeker, or is it the only time you can get out?

I'm probably the first one- glutton, as I'm not much of a thrill seeker.

Let me know if you're going John. I'd be interested!

I've seen those reports of wsb being caught at night and don't see why we can't do it up here.  But, I wouldn't venture out far.  I saw a bunch of squid boats near LP and there was enough light to feel comfortable... not to fish near them, but within eyesight.

BTW - I'm neither of those and just wanted to maximize the bite opportunity.  :smt003

I work for an LED company and could make powerful lights that would run on 12V. Can do Red, Green, Blue, Amber and White Colors.
I'm also neither of those but would like to share in the fun.
