This "L.A. Newbie" just put his new Hobie Sport on the Yakima Rack and road tested it at highway speeds.  It's secure. I dont feel muck like going over about 60 mph. It fits in the garage mounted on the car!  We're getting up before the crack of dawn tomorrow and driving straight to Eureka from L.A. (13+ hours)  Will likely "play around" in Humboldt Bay around the Samoa Bridge and possible a few other places on Tues/Wed//Thurs of this week. If anyone will be out there -- drop a note.

I wish I had seen your post earlier. Hopefully your trip was good. I have never fished HB in my kayak but I have fished it many times. Mostly for Leopard shark and some for Calif. halibut. The leopard shark fishing can be very exciting and very good eating. Later Gary

Fished the bay at the Samoa Bridge .. nada ... fished Mad River Estuary ... nada ... went to Trinidad -- Success! --- Mind you I am a newbie so I am still learning .... posted pix elsewhere of the rock cod from Trinidad.  Loved the entire trip .. figured out how to silence the straps with towels and rubber bands.

db, thanks for updating us on your trip. You are a trooper, willing to drive 13+hrs through the entire state!! That is some serious fishing dedication brother!! :D

Although you may consider yourself a "newbie" the way you;re going, that newbie status will just be an old memory. Thanks for sharing once again! And if there are any questions you have or advice needed, this site is the best place :D All have been helpful with me with my questions as all have been supportive.

I'll pm you when when I, along with my yak, both head down south for business :D Look forward to reading more updates!!
