I found a nice spot there by the green buoy but it is really a very long paddle and the swells there can get really big.  But if the weather is good you can handle it but make sure you have someone with you.  Just around the horn there are reefs that has some fish but you need to go with someone that knows that area.  There are breakers there that appear without warning.

Hey Keith
Here are some links to study before you go http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/images/nccmpas/montpil.jpg
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/nccmpas_list.asp#pillarpoint
There is a line from the point to the PP bouy. do not cross. I don't know if you can see the buoy from the water for your line-up.
Here is a chart of Half moon Bay with some pretty cool zoom features.http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/18682.shtml
There is a boil rock just inside of the Green #3 buoy that use to be productive for me on a pb some times. Also the south east reef. Other people here can probably tell you how it is to paddle there. I haven't done it yet.
Watch The swell and sneaker sets! all this stuff can break. And go with others.
Good luck
Rob

I haven't fished from a yak there yet but have been wanting to try it. There is an MPLA closure area and also turning north its very dangerous due to surf. So I was going to just stay away for anything north or directly west of pillar point. I have been looking at trying a paddle southish to the reef looking stuff you can see on google earth. If you use google earth you can get the GPS cords and plot it out.

I had a great time time, near what you're describing, a few weeks ago. Just south of the "third buoy". A guy at HMB Kayaks thought it was 3 -3.5 miles from there. Didn't have a FF that day, but the bottom was uneven, reef-ish. Steady RF action and hooked up with what must have been a WSB for a few exciting moments before it broke off.

Does anyone here launch from Venice Beach?
