I built a longtail motor with a weedwacker motor early this year for use with my canoe.  It's based on a 31cc craftsman motor, and uses a 1:2 reduction chain drive (#20 roller chain) so it doesn't fry the clutch.

It has a stainless steel driveshaft with a ball bearing at the motor end, and brass bushings with zerk fittings throughout the rest of the shaft.  Everything is mounted on an aluminum rail from the scrapyard.  The propeller is a T-10 from Young's Propellers.

This motor isn't completely and totally refined - it's homemade.  The muffler still needs a little work but it's not overly loud.  I'll include the stock muffler with a pipe, and a custom muffler I made.  If you buy this, you must be a tinkerer and prepared to fix it if/when something breaks or needs adjustment.

I don't have the canoe anymore, and I'm moving out of state so I need to get rid of my excess junk.

I've probably spent $250 total on this project so I'm thinking about letting it go for around $100 OBO?  What's it worth to you?  I need it gone by Aug 21.  If there's no interest here in a few days, I'll put it on Craigslist.

The youtube video was shot in the Laguna de Santa Rosa.  With my 13' aluminum Grumman boat, I hit about 6-8mph.

That's freakin' obnoxious . . . I love it!  Not in the market for one, though.

Going Fishing?
Winds from the south, hook in
    the mouth.
Wind from the east, bite the least.
Wind from the north, further off.
Wind from the west, bite the
    best.

Busted!  I was sticking to the backwater areas for all my testing.  I would definitely register it if I were in larger waterways.  I think it's a $400 fine.

You're brave, desperate or stupid to use that thing without a guard on the chain.

Sure it's a little dangerous but it's also a work in progress, ain't it?

Craigs can be pretty fun.....this comes to mind "....you'd have to be a stupid, numbnut, half wit to get a body part or clothes stuck in a chain that sits a good 2' away from you.....this obviously ain't the motor for you."
