fine fish HD! did that come on a trolled crawler and 4lb test too?

what color and brand 4lb test are you using? leader and mainline?

I bought some 4lb test but got green instead of clear by mistake. doh.  :smt013,
fortunately, it was only a few bucks for the spool.

Yes, I caught that fish trolling a night crawler on 4 lb test and 4 lb main line.

Here's where I show that I've only been fishing for a year.   I really don't know what kind of line I'm using at the moment.

The worker at fisherman's wherehouse recommened this new line.  It's clear and he said it had a small diameter, was very strong and good for torlling, so I took his word for it.  I've been very happy with it.  I guess I'm going to need to ask him the next time I'm there.

I'm fairly new to fishing myself.

you know, I think any brand 4lb mono would work just fine, they are all decent.
I'm just wondering whether I can use my green 4lb mono as leader, or should
I go get some clear,  but then I found some 5lb line in my box that is clear,
I'm sure that will work just fine.

If the water is clear, use clear line, if the water is not as clear
I think the green line can be used. that is my understanding.

line color or diameter should be less interesting in the trolled case, would matter more for
still fishing where the fish have more of a chance to detect the line.

I'm even guessing one could troll with 10lb line if using a bitty rapala or something and
moving faster than with the worm.

but I don't know.  I am deducing that from what I have learned recently.

It is nice to have a few spools of line around so that you can spool your own reel without
being dependent on the tackle shop, they don't have tackle shops in the deep boonies.

I'm also used to saltwater where it's common to use a different material/color/test for
leader than for the mainline, but in freshwater I think they often just use the same
thing for the leader as for the mainline.

Well, I got my rudder fixed up, I'm going to do some test trolling @ lexington, I traded
in my old kayak and paddle for a longer faster one and a new paddle, all to go
for salmon this next season. I'm not even sure the boat floats, it might sink, it was used.
we'll see. If I don't catch anything, I'll make a trip or two up to melones or don pedro
or something in the new year.

replying to myself, that is sad,  :smt010.

too much computer work, not enough fishing.

but I read about grubs in vic dunaway's book and I recalled seeing some in the backyard,
I dug where I saw them last and there were both worms and grubs there.
my own private bait shop!

I wonder if these scarab beetle larvae would look good to a trout:

look tasty, no?  :smt003

I would think that would be a tasty morsel for any fish! I would use it.
