We picked up some live bait and headed out of Richmond at 7:30.

Within 10 minutes or so, we were headed under the gate in pursuit of Rockfish and my long-awaited first legal-size Ling....and why not, take a shot at catching a Salmon.

We stopped at a few spots along Rocky Point for not much, but a tiny rockfish, an underling, and my first ever Cabezon....a shaker of course..

Pretty slow, so we moved north toward Duxbury.  Dropped in and Jess caught a NICE rock.

After a few more passes, we started picking up a fish or two per drift.  Then my line starts peeling out underneath the boat....LING ON!  It's about damn time.  JUST over 24".  I was worried for a minute I would have to throw it back...

We had enough fish for dinner and then some, so we decided to join the 50+ boats out there that were fishing for the handful of salmon that were in the area.

Among the radio chatter, nobody was really catching anything.  There was talk of some fish caught near Bodega Bay and there was speculation they might be down in this area by next week or so.  We trolled for about an hour and then had a nice, smooth ride home.  No wind, calm water, fresh fish for dinner....not bad!

The catch.

Way to get out there and get that ling.  I've only had underlings so far this year, so it's nice to see others get their keepers.  i've caught bigger cabs (23") than lings this year so far.  thx for sharing.

The cabezon looks more like a buffalo sculpin.

I guess I should research closed areas a litle better....I just checked the closure map on the DFG website, and I'm sure we were further off the shore than the map shows....too close for comfort though...
