For a great fitting paddle and the ultimate paddle performance Werner Paddles recommends:

Shuna, Straight Shaft, Standard Diameter Shaft (Recommended Length: 220 cm)

They say the same length is appropriate for someone 5'4" to "over 6 ft"...  That can't be right, can it?

I bought a Lendal paddle (from Mooch) for my brother's Xmas present a couple of years ago and he loves it.  It's funny that I wouldn't spend that amount of money on myself but the thought of me cracking an expensive paddle on rocks or during launch / landing carnage kept me from making the purchase.

THEN I got a brainstorm when I was looking up an article about my friend on BASK (Bay Area Sea Kayakers).  They have a Classified section on their website and a used Kaliste was listed for half the MSRP.  Now I have a choice of bringing my expendable heavy paddle for short paddles in rocky areas or a featherlight paddle for long distances and beach launches.  Does the light paddle make a difference...yes it does!  Is the bent shaft worth it...probably in the long run, it hasn't been a problem.

I had the bending branches paddle for a couple years and this last year got a new one I used my BB paddle for cuda trolling for years and I average 8-10 miles a trip if I'm not trolling and i have since purchased a Werner corryvrecken bent shaft and love it. Let my buddy borrow it for a mile or so and used his BB and got tired of paddling it within a couple minutes and wanted the Werner back. Ive done a couple 18 mile days with it and love the paddle. If you have the money get the upgrade to a carbonfiber paddle and ditch the cheaper ones. other wise id stick with the factory one that you use regularly and save for a lighter paddle when the WAF account allows...

Hey guys, thanks for all the info.  I am new to this site after moving back to the bay area from San Diego.  I had no idea that you guys had responded, is there a way to get email alerts when someone posts to my thread?

Thanks again and it looks like I have a lot of information to inquire about.

Martin,

Sorry I missed it.  I would have been there for sure but...?  We shall hook up in the future if that would be alright with you my Danville brethren?
