If there are established campgrounds, there will be bear. End. Of. Story...

However, established campgrounds have bear proof food lockers. Put your food, drinks, and toiletry articles in these lockers, and you should be fine.

I like the Tuolomne Meadows campground in the park, and have stayed in a couple FS campgrounds north Lee Vining and, just south of Bridgeport. Never had any issues.

Kind of the wrong weekend to go camping w/o reservations though.

Regards,
Scott

Darius....for fishing in the Yosemite area, you have it nailed...SADDLEBAG!! Its just outside the park, other side of T meadows. Dont forget to explore the 20 lake basin behind the main lake. Those tiny lakes are full of Brookies and the odd Golden. In the main lake youll find chunky bows, with the odd spawner bigun thrown in the mix. If the first come first serve campsites are full at the lake go on down to Lee Vining campground and camp at a reasonable altitude ( SB lake is at 14000 ft!) At the LV campsite you can fish right from your tent if you want. If the site is full cheap motels are available.
I believe they stopped stocking waters inside the park like a decade ago. Apparently there are some HUGE super shy Browns in the river in T meadows.

Which Saddlebag Lake is that? Cuz the one in California near Yosemite is 4000 feet lower :)

The cruiser browns in the Tuolomne are indeed pretty wise, though I've had them follow a plain old Panther Martin in curiosity. The smaller rainbows and brookies in the river aren't nearly as picky. They can also be caught in any of the streams in the Tuolumne area, as well as in the lakes.

Dog Lake is a little over a mile out of T meadows campground. I've had luck in there with lures, as well as powerbait. It's been a wet, cold winter, so the fishing is just now going to be heating up.

The absolute coolest fishing I've had in Yosemite was at Young Lakes though.  A couple hours hike in, but the Brookies and Rainbows in these lakes (come to think of it, it was on a 4th of July weekend) were just asking to be caught. No bait, all on Panther Martins or on flies.

If you're wanting to stay closer to civilization, there's the twin lakes out of Bridgeport as well.
