I launched near San Quentin about 9 am. trolled around for stripers for a couple hours, moving along the bridge, the Marin Rod and Gun Club pier, etc. Nothing. Talked to a power boat that had landed a couple halibut, and switched over to trolling for halibut. Nothing but a sun tan for all the work, but it was a beautiful morning. Flat water, almost no wind. On the way back over the San Rafael bridge, I noticed at least 50 power boats all fishing close together out in the middle of the bay. Looked like they had located a school of salmon, but that doesn't seem likely. Any ideas what they were catching? Gabe

Hey Gabe, your water was what I was hoping for on my side of the bay. Just curious to know if you trolled bait or lures over there?. That area is some of my favorite striper hunting grounds and was thinkin shoulda woulda coulda. Great report. Oh yeah, define the middle of the bay?

The coastside fishing club derby was yesterday and probably those boats you saw were all looking for stripers or halis. The lower bay was blowing hard all day.66 halibut were caught and only 6 stripers.

Way to get out there! The pbers were banging halibut right there last week. trolling hoochies behind a flasher.

Thanks for the report Gave. Looks like you've covered a lot to fishing ground too.
Too bad you didn't hookup. Nice try though. Good luck next time.

I was trolling a rattle trap. Usually if there are any stripers around there, that does the trick for me. I had no bait, so for halibut, I tied on a deep six to get to the bottom and then tied on a rapala looking thing (I think the brand is Yakuzi or something like that, it imitates a swimming anchovie).  The powerboats were not really in the middle of the bay, but if you are on the middle of the San Rafael Bridge, looking towards Oakland, they were about a half mile or mile past the rock island, next to the bridge.
