I lucked out yesterday.  I scored a sweet deal on the Ocean Kayak Scupper Classic that BrianG found on Craigslist.  Thanks for the heads-up... Brian.  I owe you one!

I couldn't believe the seller actually called me out of over half-a-dozen guys that emailed him in the first few hours.  For $240, I got the  boat (in good condition) with a paddle, leash, thigh straps, a new seatback, foam blocks and straps for transporting, and even a hooded full body wetsuit.  It even came with removable foam inserts to isolate the rear cargo compartment and add flotation for safety.

I took the Scupper out for a test paddle in calm bay waters and it's significantly faster than my Prowler 15.  Also, the thigh straps made a big difference in controlling the boat.  It was the first time ever used them.

Looks pretty nice

One of the guys at HMB kayak was telling me you can eskimo roll with those thigh braces
I believe it.  I nearly rolled it yesterday when I first tried to see how much control the thigh braces provided.  I bet it would be cool to try surfing with them.

Surfing a scupper is not recommended. I have tried. I can surf it in a straight line just fine but you will either bury the front of the yak into sand and swamp the back. I don't have the thigh straps and I don't have the control to peel it sideways. Boats just too long.

SCORE! That's what I call more bang for your buck.
As I understand it the long surf skis you see sometimes are mostly for surfing open ocean swells, which are a little different from actual beach waves. A long waterline & ultra narrow hull are perfect for big open swells. Surf kayaks or wave skis do a great job on beach waves since they're shorter & generally have more rocker.

I really like the hatch behind the seat compared to having a tank well instead! NICE CATCH!
