Those look awesome! Nothing more satisfying than catching fish on gear you made!

There is a large thrift store on Main St in Redwood city that has plenty of packs of knifes for a buck or two. I bought some and tried to make my own but dang are they hard to drill through. I gave up.

So what is the secret to drilling these SS blades? That has always been the problem. I love your work. Good looking stuff. Also grinding the ends can be challenging. Any tips on how to do it? I missed seeing your stuff at GS4. Would have loved to see your stuff up close...

sent a PM....Heat is the trick on the hard ones. Doesn't make it simple but at least you can get thru the hard ones.

I am having trouble getting them to drill.  I started to make some 6 months ago, and wiped out a couple drill bits.  Could not find my Drill Doctor until last week.  Thought I had loaned it out and not get it back, it was missing so long.  Secrets to the drilling?  Buena's Vidas in Livermore has lots and they are about 5 or 6 for a buck if I remember correctly.  Thought of just silver soldering on a jump ring.

Grind a flat spot, it gets through the toughest areas, uses good bits, center punch the spot.  I use a drill mounted into a stand (one of those drill presses for poor boys.  I also recommend using the shorter "jobbers" length titanium or something like that type bit, as they seem to flex less.  for cutting off the blades I use a portable vise with a 4 grinder (they are cheap about $20 at Orchard Supply for a generic one) and use cut off wheels.  It is like a knife through buttah!

Heat as in red hot! Then it's still not real easy, but possible. Good luck.
