Conditions were really calm at the North Jetty yesterday, so calm that I could get really close to the water on the ocean side.

Got out to the jetty at about 10am because my dad and I were waiting to buy blood worms, but the guy who distributes them to the bait shops never showed. There was a minus tide at 7am I think, so I missed that.

When I got out to the jetty, I threw out one of my crab snares, and within 5 minutes, I already had a 5inch red. Got a total of 8 the whole day, gave one away. Biggest was about 6 1/2 inch. And the best part was that I didn't lose any of my snares.

Although I missed the minus tide, I still tried poking. I did pretty good, but nothing close to my best day (in March when I caught 10 eels in 3 hours on a minus tide). I caught one little eel right off the bat, but let him go. Then I got a 23 incher in the bag, and later a 20 incher in the bag. I also caught an 8 inch cabbie, and 2 even smaller cabs. The most interesting thing I caught was a rock eel (I think). It was very slender, had sharp dorsal rays, orange in color, and very small pectoral fins. Not much meat on it, so I let it go.

I also tried for lings. Threw a fish trap on dropshot for nada. My dad caught a small greenling and a striped perch, so we tried using the the perch as live bait. Not really any action on it, but when I reeled it in, its was shredded. Crabs I assume...

thx for the report and pics.  Poke poling seems very interesting, but haven't seen much posts regarding it other than from Lombard of the Intertidal, Mooch and a few others.  If you go again and would like company, PM me.  thx.
