Having had a lot of expierence with vehicle and trailer bearings from the army and civilian world, I know a lot of folks don't service their trailers as much as they should.  After reading Alan Tani's article on grease and Oil I felt compelled to post this.  If you have a trailer or suv/4x4 that hits water fresh or salt you should repack those bearings and replace any lip seals.  I found out when I was the Motor Officer in Iraq that many conventional greases will turn to water under extreme conditions.  We started using a silicone red grease that was designed for use in harsh conditions.  What a difference we went from having grease poor out of wheel hubs after every mission, to stuff we only had to regrease/repack (something to keep in mind in sandy situations).  Bearing failure became less of an issue.  Now adays I use a a Grease from Lucas Oil and I find it works well and is super tacky (this is a good thing).  There are other silicone greases out there, and I am sure they work fine.  If you have ever been on the side of a road due to a bearing failure I am sure you can appreciate it!

I say amen to the post.  Have been stuck on the side of the road  after watching my buddy's "Bearing Buddy" roll down the freeway embankment near Lake Castaic due to bearing failure.  I always check and repack annually, but if a long trip is coming it is just automatic to check grease regardless of time.  Will check out the Lucas grease.  Thanks for the tip!

Everything Lucas produces is top notch, or better. Use there fuel treatment. That stuff is awesome. It will increase your milage better than any other treatment. I use it every 5-6 tanks now. There oils are great too. Forest Lucas is the founder of the company. He was a long haul driver looking for a better product. Couldn't find what he was looking for so started R&D for his own use. Now they sponsor about every form of motorsports there is. Very nice family. Anyway, product endorsment over now.
