So i came up on some lead core crabbing line... havent even opened it, but... How do you tie this stuff to your gear, does it knot up like regular rope or is there a trick to it?

Gonna try my luck thsi coming weekend on the crabs.

If I am making a permanent connection, I tie a bowline and put some 2 ton epoxy on the knot.

leadcore may be overkill. I help haul some of Chuck's pots and it was a breeze. He had some parachute cord and it was a piece of cake. I am gonna swap out my yellow hollow core poly rope for his set up.

You can get parachute cord at any hardware store. I use lead core for my 150' ropes because it is easier to grip and pull.

army surplus as well....its just the thinner line the weight isn't an issue since the pots we use are light. But yeah for deeper pots you may want thicker. As GB2 says

Lead core is way more manageable than any other rope, less tangles and probably safer to use from a yak.  Free = no brainer, use it instead of buying new stuff.  I run 50' shots and loop the ends, makes connections easy and you can adjust for depth.

Brent, try the eye splice:

It took a while, and my fingers hurt, but it holds well, and no hardware needed!

Al, did you end up fishing the smaller traps we bought? did you have to weight it down?

Nope, no need to weigh em' down, unless your doing overnight soaks I think.  And its not that hard, really!!!  Trying to splice two ropes together, that I gave up on  :smt005

lol....you can make it as simple or as complicated as you like. Comm crab guys will splice cause the connections are strong, clean, don't foul when going through a block.  This matters when your running gear for hours at a time.

This knot works fine for me.....2-3' loop so you can pass a whole coil through it, burn the ends to prevent fray and zip tie the loose end down minimize tangling.

or you can float me the lead core and I'll buy you some parachute string  :smt002
