Hi All,

Do you think it stupid to head out of Fort Ross or Stillwater (north) this Sunday?  The swell report looks a little iffy, but I am still unsure of the thresholds of what is considered safe.  I feel the need to attempt to break abking's ling record.  Thoughts?

If wind is reasonable, I tend not to go if the swell is more than 8 feet... and if it is as high as 8 feet and not too close together.

After a couple trips there where I had to turn around and come right back home I don't go unless it looks gravy out there.  No wind and swell less than 8 ft usually for me.

We were there for a camping/fishing weekend. HA! Of course Thursday when we got there, it was beautiful, nice and flat, good visibility and not a cloud in the sky. About 7:30pm  the 'slight chance' of 'light rain' turned into a downpour all night long and half of the next day. The rain wasnt the problem tho, the ocean turned absolutely nasty. You probably would have read about us in the paper if we had gone out. I am so bummed. My tent held up in the rain pretty good tho. I guess it was a good test. Stillwater was no way and Gerstle Cove looked even worse, which was pretty unbelievable, seeing it the day before how calm it was. Im hoping for one more shot at a good fishing weekend up there with a camping trip before rock fish season ends.

Man, oh, man, I hope you took the chance and went.

The ocean was flat on Sunday with just a wisp of a breeze that died to nothing by noon.  We went to Fisk Mill and dove for abs.  I was kicking myself for bailing out on crabbing that morning-- got snookered by the forecast which was WAY wrong.

I did take a chance and go.  I went to Fort Ross.  It was windy as F$$$.  I was drifting from the wind about 1.5-2 mph.  Couldn't keep my irons on the bottom.  Managed two small gophers and an undersized ling.  I really wanted to get out and take a run at the ling and rockfish pool.  Tomorrow is the last day of the season, and it does not look good weather-wise (looks good for Bill and Abking).  I guess I am conceding on these pools unless the weather changes drastically and I can get out tomorrow.

Where is Fisk Mill anyway?
