Took a day off on Friday.  I looked at the weather report and it looked like it would be a decent day to go out on the bay.  I've been wanting to try Oyster Point for a while now, especially since it is, basically, in my back yard.  So I got some frozen anchovies out of the freezer and made the trip over there at 7:30 AM.  There are two ramps at Oyster Point, one which is the boat ramp and the wind surfing ramp.  I went out off the wind surfing ramp.  There were 4 steps and, because it was close to high tide, the ramp went directly into the water.  I paddled out starting about 8:00 AM with little wind and a lot of sun.

I bounced my anchovies off the bottom hoping for a halibut, but I didn't get any hits.  Couldn't really drift fish, because there was basically zero breeze.  I paddled from oyster point over to candlestick and made a quick pass by the brisbane tubes for good measure.  I was intending to get off the water by noon, but it was such a nice day that I stayed out until 4:00 PM.  I saw a few other boats out on the water and I know at least one of them got a fish because I saw the guy dump a big halibut carcass in the trash back on land.  Even though I didn't get any hits, the fishing was almost incidental since it was such a nice sunny day.  Only downer was, when I got back, the tide was down and the wind surfing ramp doesn't extend all the way down to the water.  This meant I had to pull my yak across a few rocks, cringing all the way.

Even though the fishing was slow, if I catch another day like Friday's I will definitely be back out there.  Except next time I will remember to bring some suntan lotion as the extra 4 hours on the water gave me a bit of burn.

Way to keep after em Bink. I would try trolling or plugging with a white fish trap style swim bait or white hair raiser w/ white worm tail at all those spots u mentioned. I have not been out to that part of the bay on my yak yet, but soon. Let me know when you go next. I'm fairly close. B.A.

Nice try Bink! Looks like you scored on the weather front. Bummer that dude didn't leave his carcass in the bay so it could go back to the food chain. When I bring fish home to clean I will usually dump the remains in the bay the next day on the way to work.

A rig that works pretty well for me is to replace the weight on a three way halibut rig with a swimbait or hairaiser. This way you are fishing both lures and bait and at least if a fish strips your bait you still have the lure out there.

Thanks for the report!

i fished Oyster Point for the first time too and also had a delightful time.    I marked lots and lots of fish on the FF, but they wouldnt take my flies, except for a kamikaze jack smelt that darted to the surface to snatch a little dropper fly i had trailing the clouser.    Oyster was a very pleasant surprise.
