For what's likely my last ocean trip of '05, today turned out to be pretty productive.  Launched about 9:45 to very foggy conditions.  Funny how the fog always seems to be the worst right before clearing.  Was just the slightest breeze, and the water was pretty smooth.

Went to the reef where there's usually waves breaking (nearly a beeline from the gate to mavericks), dropped line (my usual egg sinker & squid on snelled J and stinger treble), and nailed an average China (or Gopher -- gotta find out how to tell the difference b/w the 2).  Great to get the skunk off on the first drop.  Started to get hung up on kelp, and decided to move around a bit.

I ended up off the rocky point just below the radar station, still with great conditions, and had a blast fighting a 26" ling.  Nothing to worry abking about, but got me drooling about tonight's dinner.  I like eating rock fish, but really enjoy a healthy ling.  Something about the ease of cleaning it, and amount of meat you get without worry of bones (esp. for the kids).

The wind was rather fickle -- would flare up, blow into double-digits, and whip the water into white caps.  Just after I caught 2 other Chinas and another, sub-legal ling, I began to head back tiring of fighting the wind to stay remotely still.  Of course once I was back on the harbor side of all the reefs, the conditions began to settle.  Trolled around slowly, caught a decent Cabezon and released it.

Ran into another yak angler -- Paul.  Think he's just getting into this obsession and told him about ncka.org.  Bill, you need to provide cards that I can hand out -- I'm never sure folks will be remembering the site.

All in all, given 3 hours of fishing, not a bad way to end the year.  To top it off, I managed to beat the Thanksgiving rush at the stores, and picked up my portobella shrooms quickly (if anyone needs to build up WAF  :smt008, Sean's recipe is the trick).  Now for the spoils...

Sounds like a great day.  I was busy the last few day building WAF by installing snazzy baseboards for Leah.. :tongue2:  Been looking at the bouy and crying on my chop saw.  Oh well, maybe this weekend.

Dave - I\'ve been giving out little NCKA stickers (Provided by Bill)...I\'ll give you a sheet next time we hook up.

Thanks for the report - Let me know if you\'re looking into some trout fishing - I\'m good to go!
