Elk hunt Ca.

If you got to pick a hunt for elk where would you choose and why. I was thinking of putting my 6 points to use this year. I have only hunted elk in Id. and Co. If I could choose it would be Tomales but I don't think those are hunted.

Hunting the Tomales elk would be sweet! All you would need is a bunch of carrots and a hammer

Ive been on an elk hunt in Norh Idaho and I dont know if anywhere in ca can top the country up there.  However, seeing those things graze openly with the cattle over by casch creek and Indian valley...............

I can take you right to them in the Owens Valley. Tule elk.

Correct but there are a lot of choices in Ca. all are limited and with 6 it does put me in there a little max I believe is 7. If I'm going to put in for it I'd like some intell.

I have 8 Elk points and I'm not maxed out. Missed the first year and I believe I screwed up my app one other year.

I'm just saying that drawing an Elk tag in Cali is very difficult.

Leggett would be my first choice. Other than that I've seen some massive herds around Hernandez reservoir though I think that's all private land immediately around the lake. There is public land in the area but again Leggett has an awesome population and I believe they do have special accommodations for the elk guys.

I would love to even draw a cow tag. Elk is some damn fine tasting table fare.

Never hunted Elk, but the thought of smoked Elk on the BBQ has me thinking about next year.

Max points for 2011 is 9. Guess I only missed one year. Sucks because you can never catch up to the max points guys.

@ Screwloose didn't realize I missed that many, either way a kid up here at paint store got a bull tule tag with just 3 points so its possible. Just thought with this many points its time to start trying.
