Hey, any of you have one?  If so, what brand and how long have you had it and do you use frequently?

I got a Whites MXT a long while back. Found a bunch of stuff with it in area up on the klamath that friends of mine had already gone over... gun parts, buckles, coins, jewlery, etc. They went and got a whites after that. Not sure what the best is out there. But the MXT is lite and very easy to use. Its a lot of fun and addicting.

I have a Whites DMX, had it about 10 years. Love it. Headphones help a lot.

I'm looking at getting a Garrett ACE 250.  For the money, I think I get away with $200 cost by the misses, Don't think I'll be so lucky with anythng more expensice though.

My wife got me an Ace 250. Works ok for relics. I'd like one that is better suited for gold for the areas I take it to though.

Had it out in the middle of the Nevada desert last month and found a car oil filter buried in a dry stream bed. Who would even consider driving 100 miles to the middle of nowhere and then change oil?

Troy, are you going to search for pirate gold at the beach or in your apartment shag rug?  :smt005

Well, before I go out and get one (More likely the ACE 250) I've been reading up on them, and how they actually work, which ones are good for what etc. and I've discovered that the freaking expensive ones do what I want (figures) Basically, Different detectors operate on different frequencies and generally the lower the frequency the better they are at deeper targets, the higher the frequency the better they are at smaller or gold targets though maybe not as deep. Multiple frequency detectors have the best of both worlds but cost more and have a number of quirks themselves.  Then you get into the Pulse Induction or PI Vs BFO? Ground balancing. I'm gonna stay simple!

So, I think I'll try the ACE out and see what it does.  I can always upgrade later If i really want to (Still having hard time justifying the 4 digit price tags though)

I've got two Whites, a Classic IDX, and an XLT.  Both have their purposes.  I haven't been swinging in a few years, as I keep adding more and more hobbies to my clutch.  It does a great job of killing an otherwise boring afternoon for sure.  The wife and I would head up to Oregon coast range where there used to be WWII logging camps, and swing till we hit pay dirt.  Then turn them off and dig.  We found many old bottles, Prince Albert tabacco cans, square nails, and old wood stove parts.

The IDX is a great simple machine to play with, and finds the goods.  The XLT is programmable to the point you can drive yourself nuts doing so.  Has alot of great features, though.

Get one of those bullseye things... you poke it around in the dirt and it buzzes when it touches metal. Helps out so much when you sifting the dirt.

I have a Whites MXT also. Now that little league season has started I hit the park once a week to pick up the easy coins that fall in the grass.

Get a Bullseye to help find what your detecter has hit on.
