Is there a range there?  I don't see any birds in those pics.  Maybe the guys shooting were treating you like golfers treat the golf ball collectors in those little carts at the range.  Putting money on who can hit the guy. 

...and if you were only "picking off" and not "digging out" the BBs, then that's like someone throwing sand at you at the playground.  Hardcore as a three year old.
