The first has been news for two weeks or so. As reported in the Press-Democrat, Independent-Journal and even the San Francisco Chronicle, Lake Sonoma was at full capacity for the first time in more than 10 years—a tremendous feat considering that it had been at an all-time lo
Late last month, representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (who run the lake) said the water level had exceeded 245,000 acre-feet, its theoretical capacity. There was so much water in the lake that it actually surged into the flood pools, triggering Army Corps engineers to engage in a bunch of controlled releases designed to prevent downstream flooding.

Went to the steelie feast up at the dam not much happening but it sure has changed. You were right on the flows Allen it was 1800CFS out of the dam pretty muddy and the lake is cloudy. You guys that were at Mooch's thing check out the launch not much left of that mountain by the ramp just the tip sticking out. Saw Allen and Patrick they stopped by on the way to play Robin Hood, nice day out. Lake has gone up almost 30'

Sunny if you look at this page you can see that they are stepping up the releases out of Mendo so it's as full as they want it. They rarely let it get much over 80% capacity to keep a cushion. I was hoping to start fishing on Friday but with Mendo dumping water the river will stay muddy longer :smt013

Gracias for the lake status & pics! I know it's not a good time right now but I've been wanting to go back to the Lake since Mooch's get together. Those petite smallies are calling me. We're putting a couple of units in for the ranger's housing at the hatchery soon so maybe I can pack the yak.....if the timing's right. jim

Incredible - from all-time low to full in just a few weeks. Would be great to get the majority of other reservoirs back up.

Just a lucky guess Mike. Someone got a new sweater for Christmas? Patrick and I hit the Sonoma Bowmen's target range...way cool. Getting to shoot different grades, over creeks, and many different distances is great practice. Here, piggy-piggy........

Great report and pics!  Having the lake full so early is great, now the water level will be the same for quite a while so the smallies can start thinking of spawning (just like the rest of us!)

Man, what a difference. Perhaps now we can catch more fish this time around.
