Topic: Is it worth hooking up Sonar to GPS unit?  (Read 2672 times)

I am considering hooking up my Matrix 37 Sonar unit to my Magellan GPS 315. GPS was owned for some time...Matrix is new purchase.

The cables/kits to hook this crap up is $50...and a new GPS "dongle" for the Matrix is only $100.

But would I really gain much functionality from hooking up the two? I mean my GPS 315 has a decent display and everything...do I even WANT to hook up the two?

Is it worth the hassle?

I will tell you this about the GPS315... they don't hold up to saltwater for too long.  So if you do hook it up, make sure you have it in a bag or something... and cable connections lubed with dielectric grease.

I used my GPS315 for about a year before it died on me.  Had never really been submersed but had been exposed to saltwater splashes a lot.

Is it even worth hooking the two together though?

Point taken about 315's saltwater capability...

Check out Sean's experience putting together the Matrix 17 with the Humminbird GPS antenna... pretty clean installation.  For the long term, this might be the best way to do it.
