Sorry for the late fish report as I was in deep doo doo with the old lady (told her I was going out for half a day, but stayed until 4pm or so)!

Got to Chabot around 8:30ish and ran into BA.  Had a brief intro with BA and share some Chabot fish stories while getting the gears ready.  The condition was perfect as though the lake knew she’s going to have some newb yakers out on the water!  Finally in the water around 9ish (didn’t realize the yaks needed inspection).  I’m stoked as my yak did not take in any water (installed my own rudder and ff for the first time).  20 min into paddling, I look to my right and there was action!  BA was about 30 or 40 yards from me and fighting a monster!  The trout (I think it was more like a salmon) flashed a couple of times and boom, it’s in his yak!  It looked about 6 to 7lb from where I was floating.  It’s now around 9:30 and I’m rushing to my favorite trolling spot and wanting some of that action for myself.  Bumped into another NCKA member Bink on the way there and shared a couple more stories.  Finally reaching the dam around at about 10:30, asked the few shore fisherman if they had any luck.  And as they shrugged their shoulder, I hear that familiar sound of my ultra light action reel dragging!  Yeah baby, set the hook and she’s on!!!  A huge Whopper Jr without cheese!  The $.99 special!  A 17 ½” at around 2.7lb!  Yeah, it may not be a full size Whopper like Mooch’s…  but it was my first on a yak!  I’m trolling with Rapala J5 blue, but they were hitting on both blue and firetiger.  The action was in the water trolling as many shore fishing got skunked.

I finally reached back to the boat house around 3:40 as my arms burned like they never did before.  Joined Bink for a couple of stories as we watched some of the boat renters lug in 6 and 7lb Whoppers (all on trolling).

It’s was a good day for a very green yaker!

Thanks Bink for taking the pics and it was nice meeting you and BA!

Congrat on the first catch on the yak!  I'm sure there'll be many more to come.  Thanks for the report and pictures Pete.

Congrats on your first fish on the yak!

Here's another tip for ya ragarding paddling - don't use you arms so much, instead, rotate with your torso. At the end of the day, your stomach muscles should be getting most of the workout instead of your arms.

Thanks!  You bet there's going to be more!  I think my wife's going to make this forum her personal enemy!

Nice rainbow stinky.

Thanks.  It was a blast!  A couple more of these mini trips/practice and I'll be ready for the salt!
