So, due to emergencies at work, I was unable to make it out on Saturday.  However, since I had signed up for a paddling class on Sunday (January 10, 2010), I was able to take my new boat out onto the water.  Got a good review of basic strokes and more importantly self rescues.  Heh, I ended up having to self rescue before that part of the class when I decided to test the secondary stability by leaning into a turn.  Obviously I over tested it as I ended up flipping the boat over.  Fortunately, it was relatively easy to turn it back over and get back into the boat.  After that I self rescued on purpose about 3 or 4 more times, and found it was pretty easy to get back on board.  Now I need to figure out how I can practice self rescuing in a little bit of swell and wind which will be a more realistic scenario.  I had a great time taking my kayak out for the first time, and can't wait until I get my first fish on board.

That is when the full joy kicks in Michael. When you participate in the hookup
with these fine fellas and catch some fish. Good luck on getting your new boat ready for fishing. See you on the water soon.
