Finally got a hold of my Dad.  He is at their beach house in King Salmon.  He said it was big.  He said the last earthquack he felt that big was the Silimar Earthquake in LA.

He said no damage to their place so far, but all the power is out and emergency crews are running all over.  Everyone got in their cars and drove inland in case of a Tsunami.  I saw noaa just released that no Tsunami  was predicted.

I guess a lot of picture windows and such are broken around town.

Hope BlackAB and Domenick are ok.

Matt

It was big.  Broken dishes and jars that fell from cupboards, terracotta planters broke, bicycles fell from hanging hooks (onto my kayak, yikes!).  Everyone I have talked to, my family and my neighbors are ok.

My office had a number of books fall, clock broke, my barometer, thermometer, tide clock fell but still work, etc.

The local TV channels are still out a couple hours after the quake now.  Landlines have been hit or miss but cellphones work.  There have been some gas leaks around town.

My 4 year old daughter just asked if there was going to be another earthbummer.

Just had another aftershock as I type this.

Everything is fine over here on the coast, Matt. Thanks for the concern everyone. It was a lot of fun,I love earthquakes, dont know why. Its is like turbulence without the plane. I have been through a few, so I try to stay prepared, lots of beer and gas for the generator, basic needs right?

I called Eric but he was OTW at the time of the quake so we will have to wait for that report.

Its funny, in the South its a hurricane party. Up here its a "hang out in the driveway and drink beer with your neighbor till the next one hits" party.

Thanks,

Domenic

I went back down to the South Fork late this afternoon.  I was drifting along when my butt started bouncing in the yak seat - I thought, "that's odd - is it a current?"  Then the big redwoods all shook and I could hear branches falling - it sounded like a strong wind blowing through the forest, but there wasn't a breath of wind!  It was cool.  Nothing broken at my place, but my office had two big windows break.  Lots of action around the Pacific Rim lately...
