First day out in the new kayaks and didn't catch a one.  But my son swears he had a seal on the line for a bit.  The seal had been playing around the kayak at that moment.   Whatever it was, it didn't stay on long.
Possible?  Should we reel in when a seal is next to us?

I had a seal or two on over the years, it's usually pretty obvious.  They grab it and go on a massive spool emptying run. Lol

Didn’t you “catch” a whale once?

Definitely possible, even probable.  I vote to reel up and move along.  Most of the time the fur bags will follow you, but hopefully they get bored and leave you alone.

i hooked a sea lion once at the mouth of klamath river. it doesn't feel like it is possible to bring him in, so i decided to break the line. it definitely made me very excited for a sec but i realized that it can't be a fish  :smt044

Ha ha, yes, almost.

I can still see that school bus-sized creature 4' below my kayak with my DR line screaming off the spool. Because of that, I might never fish at Moss Landing again...
