I have a HX460SB which I bought 4 years ago and I like it a lot super clear reception and transmission/very small and light.

I have had 3 issues with it and want to share how their Customer service dealt with them.

I always attach the wrist strap to my vest than clip it to a strap, when I got this radio I didn’t like the clip if you turned the radio 180 it would come off good thing I always use the wrist strap as back up as the radio came off the clip a few times, Well one time I was taking it off the vest and the clip came off and sank. So I sent an E-mail explaining not liking the clip and the loss. The service dept called me the same day and said they have received other complaints also from kayakers. He said they had a diff. button that attaches to the radio that locks the radio to the clip and it can only come off if you push a tab on the inside of the clip. New clip and button came 2 days later and it works great. If you have the other style call them up and get the new one.

Last Jan. my display had some fogging and my 3yr warrantee had just run out so I called customer service and they said I would have to pay the fixed rate and they would take care of it. I had E-mailed them the day before and got a response from the service dept and they said they could still cover it for free so I mailed it off on a Mon and got it back on Thursday good as new. The Radio never stopped working it was just a little foggy.

Last week I fished Sonoma in a lite rain and it fogged up again so I fired off another E-Mail and the response I got was don’t bother sending it in we will just send you a new radio and 4 days later it came in the mail. So now I will use my old radio when I fish close and save the new one for offshore.

I never have any issues with the operation of the Radio just minor fogging and both times it was when I fished all day in the rain never any problems the many times it has been dunked. I also have base unit that has been in 3 boats over 25yrs and never any issue. This kind of Customer service makes me a lifetime Customer. The guy that helped me Tim Johnson knows the Radios inside and out and is a super nice guy. If you have any problems or just questions about their radios he will have no problem getting back to you. I have found that most of the time opening the shop door is better than calling customer service.  [email protected]

I love hearing stories like this.  If I was in the market, this would definitely turn me on to them.

Thanks for sharing Mike. I've been having problems with my Uniden VHF too and it
has been fixed once under warranty. I hope they'll take care of me again because
I am sending it back for the fogging issues as well.

I was looking at hand helds the other day at West Marine and the salesman was pointing out various radios and he had mentioned the price on extended contracts and all of the Standards had lower ones than their West Marine House  line.  That told me something right then the standards had to be better made with less come backs.

West Marine has a good sale on Standard Horizon right now. I think they're selling the 750 for $99.

That's a very good price for the 750s!
