I feel ya! I've been toying with the idea of building Chesapeake Light Crafts Sea Island Sport for a long time but everytime I have to drag my yak across gravel or cement I always think how I could never do it w/ a wood composite. If I had the extra cash though I'd totally do it.

No way I'm going to drag that beautiful yak through rocks and mud  :smt003

Totally sweet. I am actually working on building an all wood paddle. I just need to get the fiberglass to reinforce the blade. A wee bit less ambitious.

That's an Albion special. Wheel it to the dock and dock launch with no gravel/sand.

I wonder if there are epoxys strong enough to resist gravel abrasion.

We used to have a member (if I remember correctly, his handle was "Kayak builder") who made that same kayak BUT he also added the Hobie Mirage drive to it. He used to paddle/pedal out with us during the epic salmon years at Linda Mar. Never knew what happened to that gentleman?

On wooden drift boats they mix graphite w/epoxy and apply as a skid shield for rocks and such.
