I have been surfing for a radio for a while, and had been looking at something that floats (if it can sink I can loose it, no really, I will loose it), so I have been looking Hard at one of the Floating ICOM 34, a bit pricy, but floats.  I came across a some Cobra radios and was wondering if any one had any expierence witht hem or this model in particular.

http://www.keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?M=COBRA_ELECTRONICS_MR_HH330_FLT&ID=4217110

The price I can live with, it floats, does not look to be as big as the ICOM, nor as expensive, they have another model that  has a blue tooth feature and costs about what the ICOM does, but when I fish I don't really want to chat on the phone to much.

Or if some one is using something out there that is different feel free to chime in.

Thanks for your input. and please if you think something is a P.O.S. (piece of @#$%), tell me why like battery doesn't last, fell apart, doesn't really float, something like that.

Thanks

I had a different cobra "waterproof" model...that WASN'T. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I replaced it with a Standard Horiz. model.

Kevin,

I don't know anything about that model but I know that most people do not like cobra's as much as they like the other companies.  I am pretty happy with my current uniden voyager that I got cheap on ebay. unfortunately that seller does not appear to be selling those anymore, but they are selling the uniden mhs350 for $89xx if you act quickly.  they ship pretty quick and are good at resolving problems.

reviews for this model are excellent on amazon.

it is not a floating model, but remember that anything can be made to float.  just attach a float to the lanyard or tie it off to your pfd like I do with mine.

After having two floating icoms sink on me, I wont trust a floating model again.  Both times were my fault, accidents.  But I think floating gave me a false sense of security, and possibly contributed to the first accident.

Cobra's are just known for their lack of durability.  I'd stay away...  But if your not going to trust your life with it say on the ocean, then fine use it for lakes and such...

Forget the floating option as AHOutback suggested. If you drop it into water with any sort of wind/chop you'll never see it. I use the ICOM-M72. with a 3" orange/white "striper" float. Same with my camera. Plus you can write your name and phone number on them in case they float away.
