I launched out of Fanshell Overlook (Pebble) this morning around 10am.  Within the first 1/2 hour or so the wind started picking up.  Fortunately it didn't get any worse.  I had never fished in this area and didn't know what to expect, hoping for a productive afternoon.  Boy was the fishing slow.  I started out using a rootbeer colored swimbait with a small strip of squid.  Nothing.  Then I tried the classic feather rig with squid and caught one Olive.  After that I tried almost everything I had...sardine and glow in the dark swimbaits, blue and purple megabaits and then finally a homemade lure from a friend.  As bizarre as it seems I caught a small Cabezon on the first drop with the homemade lure.  Then...nothing.  The fishing couldn't have been much slower.  Throughout the few hours I fished out there I heard numerous people on ch. 69 expressing their frustration with the fishing.

Coulda have been worse, you could have been buzzed by ole whitey! :smt003

Seriously though, at least you were on the water.  I'd have given almost anything to have traded places with you on the water.  Cool report, keep them coming.

I do quite well out there whenever the ocean cooperates.  It is actually Cypress Point.  Can be very bumpy and difficult to fish. When the wind waves are up it's like a washing machine, and they can come from different directions.  On the nice days the kelp can be productive and there is a large reef out in the open water. This is a very lingy area. I have caught six in one day.  Last time out I got a nice blue ling.  If you go south to the outside of the large rock that can be good for large rockies.  The seals like to cruise there also.  My last time out we had a pod of whales hang around for about 15 minutes.  Large whales are pretty intimidating when you are sitting in a kayak fifty yards away.  It is my favorite and most productive place to fish along with the north shore above Stillwater.  I like the fact I can fish anywhere from 25 feet to 90 feet of water and have gotten fish at all levels.  I have seen many pods of dolphin come by me, lots of seals and sea lions, a pod of killer whales, and the last time the whales.  You never know what you will see as this part of the coast is very wild.  I'm ok with these creatures as long as I don't see the landlord.  It's a fun place but I try to keep my head up as much as possible.  Give it another shot, when the water cooperates, it can be very good.
