Try using a set of jumper cables as a kayak anchor.

Tear apart an old set of cables so you have only 2 clamps and one cable. Then attach the middle of your cable to your kayak.

On the water use the clamps to grab onto kelp to stay anchored in the wind, current, or swell.  The clamps will hold fast unless the kelp is already dead or the current is 15 mph or more.

I've found that this method is better than using a real anchor which distrubs the ocean floor and is slow to set and retrieve.

This method is also better than actually throwing kelp into your kayak because you don't end up with crustaceans and cold water all over you.

That's my river brush anchor..... :smt002

From personal experience last year...I use a lumber clamp and a tangle free rope that can be cut with one easy swipe of the knife on my pfd.

I like this idea, I always tie off to kelp, but anything to save a second here n there, I like the jumper cables, but I'm thinkin detaching the cable  and using rope to save some weight but gosh... great idea.

In a pinch the cables can do double duty as an AED device using your new school power supply.  Just clamp to your nipples and let 'er rip.
