Try the forums at fishsniffer or imhooked.  There are some people over there that regularly fish the lake and have been doing fairly well recently, at least down deep.

Yeah, Del Valle stripers aren't discussed as much as trout on the other boards but they are definitely targeted.  Seems like they are pretty hush-hush about it.

I've been lucky enough to run into the stripers a couple times but by no means have them dialed in.

My buddy and I fished there about a month ago and did really well catching catfish. We used chicken liver for bait, and fished near the boat launch. We didn't try for anything else,so not sure on the stripers. I know people catch them trolling storm swimbaits in the raindow trout color. They troll thru the narrows. goodluck.

When the lake finally turns over, the Stripers move into the shallows and bust bait--if you wait until then you can catch them without all the fancy-schmanzy deep trolling gunk and bother. That said I'll be adding a Depthmaster to my T-15 this Winter in hopes of getting some Kokanee and other obvious 'fishies' next year. You'll ind me out there after mid-Oct r so--once it settles down into serious Fall temps.

I didn't fish just went sailing with my AI.  This guy at the dock said that some boats have brought some stripers a few days ago.  I really could not verify but it's about that time of year.  I would go with you Saturday but I've already planned to go fish Monterey for WSB on a non-yak.  Let us know if you get any.

From what I've read, it sounds like the place has already turned on.  Trout guys are reporting boils pretty much lake-wide. :smt007  Unfortunately I won't be able to get out for at least another couple of weeks. :smt010

Ain't doubting you Boss but...
Well okay since I haven't been there but I have my skeptical hat on: I find it hard to believe that water temps have cooled down quicker than air temps--we just had triple digits last weekend there. But if those FishSniffer guys are swearing by it--it must be true. I'm just sayin' is all.

Fishing report for Del Valle yesterday....

DEL VALLE:
Striped bass are boiling all over the lake but the most consistent bite has been near the dam. Many are in the 4- to 7-pound range. Trout fishing has slowed a bit but planting has begun. (925) 449-5201

The report in WON says the same, with the stipulation being the boils are happening at dusk and dawn.

Live minnows, then fish the red clay banks across from the launch in 12' to 17' of water and just drift. Live minnows at the sportsmen in Castro Valley.
