I just got a Tarpon 120 for me and now I need to get him a used kayak.  I have been looking on Craiglist for a two weeks now.  I would like something under $200 and around 12-10ft.  I would prefer a sit on top kayak.  I am in the Sacramento Area.

I don't mean to be rude, but under $200 is not realistic.  Especially for a 7 y/o if safety is a priority (when isn't it?)  Consider selling/trading your Tarpon for a used tandem so you can fish with the little one aboard.

Also, try calling around to shops for demos and closeouts.  Many shops will be having their inventory blowouts right about now.

Good luck.

Try calling Monterey Bay Kayaks,
When my son showed intrest a few years ago we purchased a used P-13 from them and got a great deal.
The summer rental season is winding down and they might have a few avail.

i made a little wooden chair that fits in the tank-well of my t-140 my 7yr old daughter rides in. unfortunately, nowadays she cant hardly sit still long enough for me to wet a line. furthermore, she is always grabbin at my paddle wantin to drive. the one place in this world where i am truly captain of my own ship is closing in on me. i either gotta get her a kayak or some prozac and a waterproof nintendo. i'm not sure which yak would be ideal for a little paddlesnatcher her size.

I have a friend that just bought a 10' sit on top tarpon and wants to upgrade, he might trade you straight across, pm me if interested, his is too short for him.

get him a hobie adventure, and trade your 120 for the 100.  Then when lil' Timmy can't handle his shiny new hobie you can take :smt044 it and put him in the 100.

I found him a slightly used 10' Perception Prodigy for closer to 3 bills since it came with a paddle and I had them install a fishing pole holder behind him.  The paddle alone is $99 new.  So I think I got a good deal and he really liked it.  We took it out to a local pond last night and he had a blast.  He didn't catch anything but I got a 1lb bass that I let him unhook from his kayak to release.  He likes to release the fish for me.

Congrats on the nice find!

I let him unhook from his kayak to release.  He likes to release the fish for me.

Even better!
