Got a little later start on the water than I would have liked due to GF priorities. Was still on the water by about 930 or so. Launched out of Ocean Cove because of the easy easy launch.

Water was gin clear and I wanted to take advantage of it by ab diving first.
As I was putting my fins on the GF's pole goes bendo. Not sure what is it from the distance. She yells it is a ling and asks what the size limit is.
22" I yell, so it goes back, just shy.
I make my 1st dive down and see a lot of fish so I am thinking fishing is gonna be red hot. I pop 3 quick abs and get back on my yak. GF's pole goes bendo again..another short ling...so I thought.
I start fishing and hook into a cab about 18". Was my 1st fish and I thought I could do better. Just wanted to weigh him but he flops out of my hand and into the deep blue.
My GF comments I couldn't keep it anyway, it was too short.
Cabs need only be 15" to be legal.
Well it turns out the 2 she caught earlier were both cabs, not lings,  but shy of the 22" she thought they had to be..dohhhhh
Fishing got pretty slow in a hurry with the exception of making bait.
Took less than 30 seconds every time. I did have 2 real nice hook-ups on what I think were lings, but I was unable to boat either. I was able to bring up just the lips of my live bait on one of the hook-ups, and the other time it was so mangled I could barely tell what it used to be.
All in all it was a great day to be on the water.

That looks like a nice spot to launch.  Salt point was kinda a pain with the steps at the bottom and walking across all the big rocks.  Thats great that you can camp there too, I am getting sick of driving up there in one day. It seems like I do more driving than fishing.  We should carpool and do a 2 day trip up there before the season is over. :fishing2

Yea I know they have to be 24". I just zoned while I was typing.
Ocean Cove is about 1/4 mile north of Stillwater Cove (Sonoma) and about a mile or so south of Salt Point. If you know where the Salt Point Lodge and Restaurant are, then you will have no prob finding Ocean Cove. Stand in the parking lot of the lodge, spit across the road, and it will land in the cove.
There is a small gas pump on the cove side and a small general store across the street.
It is first come first served, although they do have group sites that can be reserved. I don't really like the group sites as there is little or no tree cover there.
They have a fish cleaning station, and quarter operated showers. Pretty laid back atmosphere. Would be a good place for a group to go camping and fishing and diving.
You can drive to the water or easily wheel your yak there, although if you drive you have to back down; there is no turn around at the bottom.

Travis,
I lived in Fair Oaks for 2 1/2 years and made the drive a million times.  We finally moved because my wife figured it was, move, or die.  She was sure I was going to fall asleep at the wheel one of these times and crash, especially on the Monterey and back in a day trips.  I have been here in Santa Rosa for almost 10 years and I would never go back.  It is a killer place to live.

Unloading right at the water looks great!  do you have to park up the hill then hike up and down or is there parking down by the water?

Yea on my drive home everyone starts calling me to see if I am still awake.  If I move, it will be out of CA.  I don't know if I could live in the north bay there are a lot of wierdos there.

Travis,  next time take me up on my offer to crash at the cabin.  I stayed both Friday and Saturday night.  For whatever reason I was VERY tired Saturday night.  After cleaning up and cooking dinner I lay down on the couch to watch some TV.  12 hours later I woke up!!!  A 3 hour drive home after fishing would have been brutal.
