Does anyone know if the area behind the rockwall is still a restricted area?

This article tends to make me believe that area is open, since the Navy no longer has claim to it...  There's an old pier on the far side, and I'd like to fish it or make bait there at least...

I've cut thru the back side many times and never been stopped, but some powerboaters told me it's restricted.

More info about the area than you want to know, some interesting reading:

No fence. No sign. No problem.

I saw a war canoe club running races inside the wall last year. It's open.

It's also one of Sharky's favorite bait spots:

Well there IS a sign...  At the end of the wall: "Warning: Naval Property"...  But I suppose it's a remnant of the past, or applies to the actual wall only.

It's not the most scenic area, but I'm drawn to it for some reason.  Seems I find something new every time.

I was wondering the same thing today as I drifted through the cut and into the naval zone. :smt003  Could only make two baits today so I tried everywhere.  I eyed that dock but was not sure I should be in there.  Lost an upgrade at the boat, bummer.  But you are right Eric it is strangely beautiful around there.

I've launched/landed from the inside of the wall before with no hassles.  Those docks however, are gated and locked from the street, so while the chances are slim, somebody might not get a kick out of folks climbing around on them.

I have checked with the Coast Guard - no restrictions.  I also checked with the Alameda Police - no restrictions.  The only thing that I would suggest is to maintain a safe distance from the Marad vessels and the Hornet so they don't get antsy with you being too close to the vessels.  I'm going to check with Alameda City Hall if there are any restrictions and will post a reply.

Hey everyone.  The lagoon is still NAVY property according to the city which means NO FISHING inside the rockwalls or anywhere on the base.  It is patroled by the Sheriff.  Supposedly the Navy is the middle of doing some remediation work in and around the lagoon, which means their stirring up the bottom with all those chemicals that are still there.

Has anyone read the signs on the wall that surrounds the airfield. Its kinda disturbing looking up after putting a hali on the stringer to see those warnings.

The water inside near the ships is often a eerie rust red.
