Went out with KiaiKai on Saturday.  We were tempted to do the tourney, but had an urge to try a spot south of Bean.  We got there early, tried an unprotected beach launch into some nasty shore break.  We both got dumped.  Ocean 1, us 0.  The periods were very tight (10 seconds) and non lull.  Rather than try it again, we moved a little further south.  Found a nice place to do a beach launch and started to fish.

We only had a couple of hours.  I was on borrowed time from the wife.  I fished money minnows, 3 oz lead heads.  I kept getting hit, but nothing would stick.  I even fought something big to within color, but it came off.  Then I looked at my hook.  Flat.  Like someone pounded the tip with a hammer.  Cadmium my butt.  I didn't have a file, so I knew I had to swap out.  But for some reason, I kept fishing it.

KiaiKai took down a fat cab, so I was behind on the fish count.  I moved us over to reef 2, and within 5 minutes, bendo.  Big ling.  That dull hook had enough on it to split between tooth 1 and 2.  I had promised ling for dinner - a risky proposition as karma tends to punish those who eat their fish before they catch them - but today it was on my side.

We came off the water just as the sun broke through.  It always looks nicer when you are off than on.

Sorry we didn't do the tournament - would have been nice to meet the crew.  I did get to meet Mooch returning a buddies kayak the other day - good to meet you.

I'm hitting that first beach again to even the score - probably on Saturday.  PM me if you want to join.

Kiaikai has better pics - hopefully he can post and provide his own summary of the trip - particularly the ill fated beach launch...

Never give up, never surrender, show a ling no mercy. You got beat down and thrown around by that damned ocean, but got ride back on that yak. A fishing tale, or a triumph over adversity? you be the judge. hahaha WTG man
I like to have fun.......

Nice goin' guys!
That can be a rewarding spot, no doubt! I may be down for a Saturday go-out. I need a couple more fishing days before the season closes!

I had no prob with the double post, Kiaikai's narrative on the surf launch was epic!
