Hi Yakers:

The Day started early, flat and a picture Post Card Day.
Jim and I traded stories and Paddled straight out by the Sailboats.
Jim told my about some structure S and I made one drift catching
only one Shark. I started to do a Kayak Mind Melt when I felt a small Tap-Tap.
I gingerly pull the rod from between my legs ever so slowly reeled in and,
felt the Fish explode.
I had a Flash back form Daveport and knew I had a Butt! I use 15Lb. Test
P-line and I knew I had a good fight on my hands. The Butt made several runs
and my Arms were burning. I went for my EK Gaff and bounced the Gaff twice
off the Head of the Butt. My Heart sank everytime I missed with the Gaff and watched the Butt do a Moon Walk across the water.
My luck was running out. The last try I pined the Butt when all of a sudden I was hit by a 3 Ft. Wake. I hunkered down and rode the Wakes
with the Butt over the Side both hand busy and my Paddle between my legs.
With the last of my Kayak Karma  I got my shit together and got the hell out of the Shipping Channel and away for the Blue and Gold Cattle Boats.
The Wind and Landing had picked up and I had to fight the NW winds
 and Swells back to Shore.
                                                                          Sea-ya
                                                                          Ernie

P.S. Thanks to Jim for helping me
back to Shore.

Hi RH;

The Butt was 30" caught on a Fresh Frozen 8" Sardine from Boccie Boy.
I use a 2 Ft. Leader and I think the Larger Bait helps to put more flash out.
The Live Frozen is Food Quality and I have caught two Butts this Mo. on Boccie Boy Bait. The Flylined Owner Ringed Hooks and very sticky and easy for these old Eye to tie. :smt005

Got there A little late 7:45 Ernie was on the water maddog and redyak were ready to go .Nice day for the most part. It was nice to meet you guys.
Ernie was'nt Kidding about the wave that hit him. I was only half as far out as him and kind of keeping an eye out for him. I just look over my shoulder as the ferry hit him and he gets lifted up .Oh shit that ferry looked like it passed within 20 yards of him and it was moving fast.I watched until I saw his paddle moving again.
I fished until 4:30 drifted back and forth zig zagged across every bit cover or dropoff I could find with 2 doz. live shiners and nothing but one gopher not a single bite (where did the rock fish come from?)
The wind and rain got a little nasty when my gps said I was moving zero miles per hour and I was paddling pretty hard I knew I was done. I was really determined to catch my first butt. Jim says I have to go there at least 8 times to get one.
I only saw or heard of 5 being caught including the 2 party boats that  came in.
still it was a wonderful day.
