We bid and won a weekend at a cabin at Huntington Lake at my sons school so we decided to go this past weekend. A buddy of mine has fished there for trout and koks and said it's worth bringing the yak and gear. I haven't trout fished in about 20 years so read Mooch's "how to" and went shopping for some trolling lures. Spent about 2 hours on the water on Sat. Very nice and very calm. The water there is very clean and clear and just begs for someone to jump in. After about an hour trolling I landed this little guy, I let him go so he can at least hit puberty. That was it the first day.

Second day, trolled around in late afternoon. With no luck. I did crush a couple Bud Rights and watched the sun set on a completely empty lake which was a treat. I get back to the launch site and realize somewhere along the paddle back one of my rods decided to jump ship...the ungrateful little F'er. No clue when or where, it was just gone. It never occurred to me to use a leash on fresh water. Lesson learned.

Tally-
Fish caught from Kayak = 2
Gear lost from Kayak = 2

I am not liking these results so far.

Nice going--sorry about the gear loss. Beautiful lake pics--makes me want to kayak and fish there. I thought Huntington would have the Flea Circus going full on but it looks so peaceful--I'll bet it is a great spot once it turns over and the Trout are fattening up for Winter.

Went to Boy Scout camp there. Never caught a damn thing. We may have been to focused on how to get to the girls camp on the other side of the lake.

Beautiful lake!  Sorry about your lost rod.  Thank you for the report and pictures.

Reminds me of living in Fresno in the early eighties, loved Shafer, Huntington, Kings River etc, not to mention having Yosemite and Sequoia National a short drive away, can't say I loved Fresno as much!

I hear that. I used to have to travel to Fresno a couple of times a month on business and never really took to the place--suburban sprawl everywhere. Miles and miles of strip malls and not much else--there is little there there. But it does have great proximity to great outdoors spots--its one redeeming feature. The only consolation was I'd take my float tube and stop off at the Forebay on the way back if the wind was good. that always made a great end to the trip and I came home smiling most trips  :smt001
