The talk around town is that the bite is still cold, but I did read of a gutted and gilled 33 pound beast from Saturday's opener as well as a 30 pounder and couple dozen other kings out of Shelter Cove (they're going north several miles and averaging maybe .5 fish/boat).  The ocean was still kinda nasty today with south winds to 10-15 knots and a persistent 7'+ longish period swell playing itself out all afternoon.  Tomorrow is supposed to be the first of three or four much nicer days to come OTW, so we'll see what happens.

Here's my rendition of the Peaceful Easy Feeling it was to be out on the ocean yesterday:

Hoping to get back OTW tomorrow...   :smt001

It's a "DeepSix", which is a diving planer - the weight is situated so it gives maximum dive and your line trails out behind it.  I've spent many hours studying the line angle coming off the DeepSix - it seems that you get a foot of drop or so for every 3 feet of line out.  A "pull" of line from your reel is around 1.5 feet.  I like to run at 20-30 pulls, so maybe I'm 10-15 feet below the surface.  I've also caught fish at 70 pulls on a slow troll, so maybe that's more like 40-50 feet down...  One cool feature of the DeepSix is that it pops out on a hard strike, so it becomes more of just an in-line weight of a few ounces.

Good luck at Heenan Lake.   :smt001

hahahaha!  Thanks, Glyn!  It's not me singing - it's an early (70's I'd say) version of the Eagles singing one of their classics - I taped it from Youtube and the video was a long haired Don Henley and his happy-stoned buds.   :smt005

very cool so almost like a down rigger where the rubber band will snap the diver will lay flat and you will just have weight. very cool if I ever get to fish for the trout of the sea I will give that a try.
Thanks learn something off these sites all the time...

Thanks for sharing the video, I am stuck to my chair with a bad foot for a few days so it was nice to get out of the house by watching the video.  Much appreciated.
