I've got a buddy trying to talk me into diving the Salt Point/Fort Ross area Saturday morning. I see some winds and swell here:

Sat
NW winds 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 3 to 6 ft. NW swell 7 to 9 ft at 9 seconds. Slight chance of thunderstorms.

SAT
N WIND 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 4 TO 6 FT. NW SWELL 6 TO
8 FT AT 8 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG.

I can't seem to remember how this adds up right off shore. I'm not sure how fun the diving will be.

Doesn't look that great to me.  Here's the report from http://saltpointoceanconditions.com/

Quote
Here comes the wind again! The forecast is for strong NW winds starting today and going through the weekend. A small craft advisory is in effect. NW windswell is on the increase as well as a small South swell.

The kelp is becoming very thick in a lot of dive locations, it is wise to streamline your dive gear down to avoid any entanglements.

I'm gonna try to get there around 8 or 9ish. Yellow hobie adventure or diving with the boogie board depending on conditions. Forecast conditions don't look ideal, but the Ft. Ross cove is fairly protected. Vis is more often then not crappy, but doable.

Doesn't sound pleasant. There's never shame in backing out if it looks bad or even remotely unpleasant.

My scuba instructor 1985,

"If it don't look like fun, don't do it, some days ya just gotta sit on the beach and drink"

every time I've remotely violated that rule, I've ended up sorry I did.

I wished my internet was working yesterday.  Me and a buddy drove up to find less than favorable conditions.  I still went out looking for abs as there were others coming with a few here and there.  The vis was 4' everywhere around there.  I dove 2 spots, fisk mill, then went back to stillwater cove.  Ug.  I was having mask problems and salted my eyes at fisk mill in the first dives.  No abs.  Then at stillwater I found a few undersize but had problems with clearing my ears.  Only 5 more feet and I could have scored.  I got a nose bleed and went back in.  Bummer.  I hope you scored if you went.  JTF

I for one ended up not hitting the water this weekend, regrettably :smt011. I did happen to have quite a few drinks(might have contributed some), but not quite at the beach. Hope things worked out well for those who went.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the replies. Fortunately I ended up diving Friday afternoon/evening (around 5:00 or so). The conditions where really nice with the fog burnt off and before any of the forecasted swells started up. There was a fella suiting up who hadn't dove in 7 years. He was heading out by himself into a lot of kelp and less then great visibility, I decided to dive with him. Ended up with an easy limit.

Saturday morning was indeed less then ideal. Wasn't fun looking. I did have some pals go out for limits Sunday.

Thanks again..

** Also wanted to add that I saw 2 kayakers out their fishing Saturday morning. A third joined -- looked like he launched from Reefe.
